Celebrating Our Independents!

RelyLocal announces Independents Week

The American Independent Business Alliance (AMIBA) and RelyLocal declare the week of July 1-7 Independents Week.  “It’s a time to reflect on the importance of economic democracy and community self-determination by celebrating the nation’s locally owned independent businesses and the stake each citizen has in shaping their home town’s future,” stated AMIBA director Jennifer Rockne.  “RelyLocal invites the Victor Valley to help celebrate by joining in activities and in-store promotions offered by RelyLocal and member businesses,” stated Alyssa Penman

“RelyLocal is joining other local alliances and partner organizations nationwide–thousands of independent business owners and citizens who are participating in Independents Week—to celebrate our great independent businesses who exemplify the uniqueness of the High Desert,” said Tari Blalock.  “We have a reason to celebrate—these friends and neighbors embody the spirit of entrepreneurism and individuality in our community.  Our citizens are integral to ensuring we keep these businesses that help define who we are and contribute to our sense of place.”

Residents of Victorville, Hesperia, Apple Valley, Adelanto, Oak Hills, Phelan, Helendale, Lucerne Valley and Summit Valley can participate in Independents Week activities such as First Mondays – Free Business Networking for the Victor Valley, Monday, July 1st, 5-7 pm, at Oak Hills Brewing Company (12221 Poplar St, Hesperia, CA).

In addition, many RelyLocal members will be offering special Independents Week deals. “Now is the best time to try a new local business, when special deals are available,” said Willis Whitlock. A few offers available from RelyLocal members include:

  • Ken Davis, owner of A Touch for Your Health massage therapy in Hesperia is offering a $49 one hour massage special from July 1-7.
  • In honor of America’s 237th birthday, Donna Penman, owner of Hi Desert Book Oasis used books in Hesperia is offering all regularly priced books (excludes rare, first edition, out of print) for $2.37 on Friday, July 5th and Saturday, July 6th

RelyLocal in the High Desert is part of a growing national movement of communities rallying to support their independent businesses, take control of their local economies, and reverse the trend of chains and big boxes displacing locally owned businesses.
