We spend a lot of time here at RelyLocal talking about building a better community through supporting local businesses. However, we are equally concerned with volunteering our time and resources to improve life for all High Desert residents.
Here are some ways you can join RelyLocal in making a difference!
- Read to Kids in Adelanto with the Desert Communities United Way. February 8th from 3:00 – 4:30 pm, volunteers will read to children, discuss why reading is so fun and participate in arts and crafts projects. I will be there and I invite you all to participate as well. As a lifelong reader, I can’t imagine what my life would have been like without the worlds that books opened for me. Let’s give that gift to the next generation! Check out the DCUW website for more info.
- Adopt-A-Street in Victorville, CA. We are currently in the process of adopting a street in Victorville! I don’t know about you, but driving down the road and seeing so much trash littering the desert just irks me! I know it may look like scrub brush and dirt to some, but this is our home, and a unique, beautiful one at that. It might be the Girl Scout in me, but I think that we should leave a place cleaner than we found it. So on a Saturday morning toward the end of February, we will be heading out to have a good time picking up litter! Great activity for a family to do together, or a group of friends or co-workers. If you are interested in participating, send us an email and we’ll keep you posted. We’ll be promoting it here and on our Facebook and Twitter accounts as well.
- Relay for Life in Victorville, CA. As longtime readers may know, our family has dealt with cancer this last year. Thankfully, it is in remission and my family member is doing well, but that would not have happened without lots of research and work ahead of time. We are looking at putting together a team for the Victorville Relay for Life from staff, members and fans of RelyLocal. If you are interested in participating with a fun team, shoot Alyssa an email so we can start building momentum! The event itself is in June.
