Forget Black Friday – Small Business Saturday is November 27th!

Let's show our local businesses they can rely on us!

Of course we have all heard of Black Friday – the day retailers wait for all year to finally be “in the black” because the Christmas shopping season has begun. This year OPEN from American Express and other small biz advocates have declared the next day to be Small Business Saturday!

The goals are to:

  1. encourage consumers to get vocal about their support of small businesses (you can do that on Facebook at the RelyLocal page and at the Small Business Saturday page.) They also want them to do some holiday shopping at small businesses on that Saturday.
  2. give small businesses some support and tools, including downloadable stuff to spread the word and free exposure on Facebook through a related ad campaign. (Sign your business up right now!)

I first heard about this movement on Facebook when someone suggested I like the Small Business Saturday page, but I’ve also read about it on Duct Tape Marketing, and its been covered in many news outlets with other influential supporters like Mayor Bloomberg in NYC.

Of course we know that this kind of thing is right up our alley here at RelyLocal. We would love to see EVERY day turn into a Small Business Saturday, but especially here in the big shopping season, we encourage you to spread the word. We know that we don’t want Victorville, Apple Valley, or Hesperia to turn into the same vanilla ex-urb you can find anywhere across America, filled with endless rows of the same old same old. Its time to put our money where our mouth is and make the effort to shop our local, independent businesses.

Where are you going to shop on Small Business Saturday?
